Her Role at Pesona Jiwa
Dr Monika provides psychiatric assessment, medication review and management, clinical risk assessment and ongoing medical oversight where required throughout a guest’s programme.
Her involvement is particularly important when a client arrives with an existing psychiatric diagnosis, is taking prescribed medication, is experiencing significant sleep or mood disturbance, or presents with psychological symptoms that require specialist medical assessment alongside psychotherapy.
Rather than separating psychiatric care from psychological treatment, Pesona Jiwa works through an integrated clinical model. Dr Monika collaborates closely with our psychotherapists, psychologists, doctors and nursing team so that psychiatric, psychological and physical-health considerations can inform one coordinated treatment plan.
For clients undergoing medically supported recovery or detoxification, this multidisciplinary structure becomes particularly important. Psychiatric symptoms, medication requirements, withdrawal, sleep, anxiety, mood and physical health can interact considerably, and specialist oversight allows these factors to be assessed and managed together.
A Specialist Approach to Psychiatric Care
Dr Monika’s approach is grounded in evidence-based psychiatry, careful assessment and patient safety, while remaining respectful of the individual behind the diagnosis.
Her role is not simply to prescribe medication. Psychiatric review considers the broader clinical picture — the client’s history, current symptoms, medication, physical health, psychological presentation and response to treatment.
Where medication is already prescribed, she can assess its ongoing suitability and monitor its use during the programme. Where psychiatric intervention is indicated, this can be incorporated into the wider treatment plan without disrupting the therapeutic work taking place around it.
Why Psychiatric Oversight Matters
Pesona Jiwa is deliberately structured differently from a conventional wellness retreat.
People seeking intensive support for trauma, severe burnout, emotional distress or recovery may arrive with needs that extend beyond counselling or holistic therapies alone. Existing psychiatric medication, significant sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, mood instability and the physiological consequences of prolonged stress can all require appropriate medical assessment.
Having a Consultant Psychiatrist within the clinical team means these issues are assessed by an appropriately qualified specialist rather than being overlooked or managed outside the programme.
It also allows Pesona Jiwa to maintain the highly individualised model on which the retreat is built: psychological therapy, psychiatric care, medical support and restorative work forming parts of one coordinated programme rather than separate services.
For clients and their families, that level of clinical governance provides an additional degree of reassurance — particularly when someone requires considerably more support than a traditional wellness retreat can safely provide.
